Vietnam climate guide: what travelers need to know before going to Vietnam

Mike Nguyen
Vietnam is a beautiful and fascinating country that's a must-visit destination for any traveler. With its long and narrow shape stretching from north to south, Vietnam experiences a range of different climates depending on the region. But no matter where you go in Vietnam, one thing you can count on is an abundance of delicious tropical fruits!

1. Northern Vietnam

Northern Vietnam has four distinct seasons, with cool and dry winters, warm and sunny springs, hot and humid summers, and mild and pleasant autumns. If you're planning a trip to Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, or Sapa during the winter, be sure to bring warm clothes like a jacket and scarf. But if you're visiting in the summer, you'll want to pack light, breathable clothing, a hat, and sunscreen to stay cool and comfortable.

2. Central Vietnam

Central Vietnam is warm and sunny year-round, with high humidity levels. If you're traveling to Hoi An, Hue, or Da Nang during the winter, bring a light jacket or sweater for the cooler temperatures. And if you're visiting in the summer, be prepared for hot and humid weather by packing light, breathable clothing, a hat, and sunscreen.

3. Southern Vietnam

Southern Vietnam has a hot and humid climate throughout the year, with two distinct seasons: dry and rainy. During the dry season from December to April, bring light, breathable clothing, a hat, and sunscreen to stay cool and protected from the sun. And during the rainy season from May to November, be sure to bring waterproof clothing and footwear.
